Who We Are

Monkey Joe Roasting Company is a specialty coffee house located on Broadway in Kingston, New York, across from Eckerd's drug store. We serve expertly-prepared espresso, espresso drinks, and drip coffee, along with a variety of fresh, locally-prepared cookies and pastries. We also offer whole-bean coffees of the best possible quality and freshness, roasted in small batches right in our shop. From Gabe, Owner/Roaster:

Coffee has always been an important part of my life. Growing up in an Italian family, coffee was brewed many times each day, but I particularly looked forward to the evening coffee as our family gathered around the table after dinner. I remember feeling that I had experienced a rite of passage when, at the age of seven, my father first set my own place at the table. For me, it was the start of a passion that continues to this day. Often finding myself dissatisfied with the coffee served in most of the places I frequented, and presuming that there might be many other people who shared my impression, starting a coffee business was a way to insure that I would always have great coffee for myself. In addition, I would devote my work to something I love. It took about a year of hard work to make it a reality.

In addition to being socially resonsible by distributing Rainforest Alliance Certified coffees, we also support development of renweable energy. Our coffee shop offsets 100% of our electric usage through the purchase of wind power from New Wind Energy.

Where We Are

Monkey Joe Roasting Co. is located in the Hutton Building at 478 Broadway in Kingston, New York 12401. The building has been restored to its original 1906 appearance. The ambiance of the shop is turn of the century (the 19th) with original tin ceiling, wainscot, fireplace, and tile floor. There is lots of mahogany woodwork and Victorian style lights to give customers a feel for what Kingston was like a century ago. A 24-kilo coffee roaster sits opposite the espresso bar, which has a full menu of every type of coffee drink, including latte, cappuccino, breve, macchiato, and many more. In addition, we also have complete tea list along with frosts, Italian sodas and other beverages. Pastries, muffins, scones and just about anything to compliment our beverage menu is offered.

How we Got Our Name

People often ask where our name comes from or who is Joe? In an effort to keep it simple, we wanted to have a name that people would easily remember. The concept of using a monkey as a logo character was derived from a wish to connect to the coffee growing regions of the world, where monkeys are often part of the natural habitat.

Underneath the coffee-drinking monkey is the phrase, "…taste no evil". This establishes the mission of Monkey Joe Roasting Co.— to provide the freshest, most flavorful coffee anywhere.

Coffee Communities

Monkey Joe Roasting Company supports efforts to improve the lives of people in coffee producing communities by participating in fund raising activities for organizations such as Coffee Kids and Cup For Education. We also believe it is our responsibility to raise the awareness of our customers and community so that they understand the human cost behind a product many of us take for granted.
