The Name "Hutton" worked out in relief in the brick panel of the arched parapet atop 478 Broadway, links this building to the brick-manufacturing family; Lester Hutton and Robert K. Hutton were the original owners of the building and were engaged in brick making and real estate through the Hutton Company. The building's brick walls are relieved by bluestone bands and keystones around the oval attic windows. The broad second-story oriel projects over the street-level entrance to, originally, William J. Rifenburg's restaurant, and later to a succession of pharmacies during whose occupancy the front entrance was sleekly modernized.
